Dolly Rebecca Parton

Dolly Rebecca Parton was born on January 19, 1946 in Pittman Center, Tennessee and raised in Sevierville, Tennessee to Avie Lee Parton who was a housewife and Robert Lee Parton, a tobacco farmer. At 12, she was performing on Knoxville TV and at 13 she was already recording for a small label and appearing on the Grand Ole Opry. She graduated from high school in 1964 and moved to Nashville for her country music journey. Carl Dean, a asphalt-paving company owner was her first love. The couple was married on May 30 the 30th of May, 1966. Porter Wagoner saw her singing and invited her to appear on The Porter Wagoner Show (1961). She remained on the show for seven years. Their duets went viral and she was a part of his group at the Grand Ole Opry; she also sold and toured records. When her smash hit "Joshua" was ranked #1 in the year 1970, her popularity had eclipsed hers and she went out on her own while still recording duets alongside the singer. She was no longer with him and began her solo career in 1974. Dolly became a hugely popular musician and singer. Dolly received numerous Country Music Association awards (1968-70 1971-1972, 1975-1976 and 1976). The petite (5'0") beauty seemed to be a perfect match for television. The mid-1970s saw her becoming a regular on TV. she was regularly appearing on television specials, talk shows and prior to having her own Dolly (1976). In 1977, Dolly got her first Grammy award: Best Female Country Vocal Performance for her track "Here You Go Again." Dolly's debut film appearance came in the movie 9-to-5 (1980) in which she was awarded an Oscar nomination for her song's title as well as Grammy awards 2 and 3. The singer also took home Grammy awards 2, and 3. Best Country Song and Best Female Country Vocal Performance, for the song "Nine To Five." Her most notable role was in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (1982) and Rhinestone (1984), where she sang "Tennessee Homesick Blues". Dolly Parton Enterprises is her media empire worth over $100 million. In 1986, she founded Dollywood which is a Tennessee theme park in Pigeon Forge. This was to honor her Smoky Mountain upbringing. In the television series Dolly, she starred as herself. She was awarded another Grammy in 1988, this time for Best Country Performance Duo/Group with Vocals in the category of "Trio".
